JV Baseball swept a doubleheader versus SMSouth on Wednesday evening. The Cougars started off strong in game one behind Josh Bengfort on the mound. Bengfort had 6 strikeouts and 2 walks while going 5 innings strong. He only gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. Caleb Shelby had a monstrous day at the plate going 4 for 5. Jake Congrove and Luis Camunez each chipped in 2 hits as the Cougars went on to win by a score of 9-3. The hit parade continued in game 2 as Adam Sakati led the way with 3 hits and a team high 4 RBI’s. Jack Groebe got in on the action with 3 hits as well. Camunez, Bengfort, and Kieth Buford did not want to be out done as they added in 2 more hits each. Cole Madsen was perfect on the mound in relief as he threw 2 innings of shut out baseball while striking out 3. Final score of game 2 Cougars 16 Raiders 3. JV has improved their overall record to 4-0.
CTeam on the night won the first game and tied the night cap. Game one was a high scoring affair with the Cougars coming out on top. Griffin Nusbaum threw 3 solid innings ending in 1 earned run and striking out 5. Brayden Frazier, Jaxson Cowan, Lucas Taitt, and Gabriel Rice all had multi hit games as the Cougars won 17-9. In the nightcap Cowan once again displayed his power with an opposite field solo homerun in the top of the first to put the Cougars on top. Shane Neumer, and Rice each added 2 hits and Nathan Jamie pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 2. Due to time, the game was called in the 5th inning and resulted in a 6-6 tie. CTeam improves their record to 2-1-1.
Both squads are back in action Friday, April 2, versus the cross town rival of SMEast. First pitch is set for 4:15 pm at the 3 and 2 Baseball Complex.
